A clean and properly lubricated chain improves performance, extends component life, and increases riding safety.
Why Chain Maintenance Matters
A neglected chain can cause:
- Poor power delivery
- Premature sprocket wear
- Increased fuel consumption
- Chain failure
Recommended Maintenance Schedule
- Clean every 300–600 miles.
- Lubricate after riding in rain.
- Inspect before long trips.
What You'll Need
- Chain cleaner
- Chain brush
- Chain lubricant
- Microfiber cloth
Step 1: Clean the Chain
Spray chain cleaner evenly across the chain.
Use a chain brush to remove dirt and old lubricant.
Wipe clean using a microfiber cloth.
Step 2: Inspect the Chain
Check for:
- Rust
- Tight spots
- Damaged O-rings
- Excessive wear
Step 3: Lubricate
Rotate the rear wheel slowly while applying lubricant to the inside of the chain.
Allow 15–30 minutes before riding.
Chain Tension
Always maintain chain slack according to your motorcycle owner's manual.
Too tight:
- Damages bearings
Too loose:
- Can jump sprockets
Chain Replacement
Replace both the chain and sprockets together for the best performance.
